Zones d’Ambiguïté – Color and Altered Perception

Zones dambiguïté Color and Altered Perception is the project that will be presented by Francesca Fiaschi at the XV Florence Biennale of Contemporary Art, dedicated to the theme of dualism as a creative interplay between opposing and complementary forces.

The work, created using mixed media on paper and textile (inks and pigments), explores how material and color influence visual perception.

The research focuses on visual and tactile contrasts: light and darkness, warmth and coldness, smoothness and roughness. These are not treated as rigid categories, but as qualities that coexist within the same composition.

The project stems from a path initiated in Montréal, where the artist began investigating altered color perception, particularly through the study of color blindness.

It was in Montréal that she was first recognized as a colorist, bringing to light the importance of chromatic gesture in her practice. This marked the beginning of a new awareness in her use of color as a structural element of the image—rather than as mere decoration—until then present in an intuitive and unformalized way.

Hello!

I'm Francesca

I’m Francesca Fiaschi (FiFi), a visual artist with a background in architecture. My artistic practice explores the relationships between color, matter, and space, focusing on a direct, visual, and tactile experience. I consider color as an autonomous language, both structural and emotional, expressed on mixed media supports such as fabric, paper, plaster, thread, and pigments. My work is nourished by observations of both the natural and urban worlds, translating these experiences into abstract works that stimulate tactile, visual, and emotional perception.
